Safeguardian was founded by a solicitor with first-hand experience as a school governor, football coach, administrator, and parent of two children active in several sports. When asked to serve as the nominated safeguarding governor at his local school, he quickly recognised both the weight of responsibility and the challenges that come with it. True oversight of safeguarding meant navigating a maze of legislation, lengthy policies, dispersed guidance, and the time-consuming task of reading, digesting, and remembering it all — often as an unpaid volunteer.

That experience prompted a simple but powerful question: there must be a better way? From this realisation, the idea for Safeguardian was born — a tool designed to make safeguarding simpler, clearer, and more accessible. What began as a concept for schools soon revealed a much wider potential: sports clubs, dance groups, youth organisations, religious bodies — in fact, any setting with safeguarding responsibilities, and particularly valuable for those relying on volunteers who do not work with children every day. Safeguardian also provides an opportunity to educate and inform young people and parents on a discreet, familiar platform they can trust.

James explains: “In a world where almost everything has an app, safeguarding seemed an anomaly. Safeguardian aims to fill that gap. With safeguarding failures making headlines all too often, our purpose is clear: to centralise safeguarding information, make it accessible, and strengthen protection for everyone."
