Safeguardian Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies and similar Technologies?

Cookies are small text files, or similar technologies (such as SDK storage or local identifiers), placed on your device when you use the Safeguardian app. They enable the app to function securely and reliably and to deliver safeguarding-critical features requested by the user or organisation.

2. How Safeguardian Uses Cookies

Safeguardian uses strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies only. These are essential to provide the Safeguardian service and cannot be disabled without impairing core functionality, security, or safeguarding purpose.

They are used to:

  • authenticate users and maintain secure sessions;
  • protect the app, its users, and organisational data from unauthorised access, misuse, or malicious activity;
  • Functionality cookies: Allow us to remember your settings and preferences, such as language or accessibility features.
  • detect faults, crashes, and performance issues and to carry out ongoing maintenance;
  • ensure safeguarding content, acknowledgements, and disclosures operate correctly;
  • record anonymous, aggregated usage statistics showing which areas of the app are accessed, to support safeguarding insight, compliance, and training improvement for client organisations.

Safeguardian does not use cookies for advertising, behavioural profiling, or cross-app or cross-site tracking.

3. Lawful basis for use of cookies and similar technologies

Safeguardian relies on the following lawful bases under Article 6 of the UK GDPR:

Article 6(1)(b) – Performance of a contract: where cookies or similar technologies are necessary to deliver the Safeguardian service requested by the user or the organisation, including user authentication, session management, and access to safeguarding content and functionality.

Article 6(1)(f) – Legitimate interests: where cookies or similar technologies are used to maintain security, prevent abuse, ensure system integrity, and generate anonymous, aggregated usage insights to help organisations understand safeguarding engagement and training needs. These interests are balanced against users’ rights and freedoms and do not involve profiling, monitoring individuals, or tracking behaviour over time.

Where data is genuinely anonymised, the UK GDPR does not apply.

4. Anonymous usage statistics

Safeguardian collects limited usage information showing how often particular areas or features of the app are accessed. This information:

  • is aggregated at organisational or system level;
  • is not used to identify individual users;
  • is not used to monitor individual behaviour over time;
  • is used solely to support safeguarding awareness, compliance, and continuous improvement.

5. What Safeguardian does not use

Safeguardian does not use cookies or similar technologies for:

  • advertising or marketing;
  • tracking users across apps, websites, or services;
  • behavioural profiling or targeted content;
  • selling, sharing, or monetising data for commercial analytics purposes

6. Managing cookies

Because Safeguardian uses only cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary for the operation, security, and safeguarding purpose of the app, consent is not required under UK privacy law. Disabling these technologies may prevent the app from functioning correctly or securely.

In summary
We use only the cookies needed to make Safeguardian work smoothly and securely — never for advertising, always for improving safeguarding access and usability.
